Week 2 EOC: Boston Consulting Group - Video Games

?-
An important group that is recorded in the Boston Consulting Group is the question mark. The question mark in the video game industry is mobile gaming (or computer games). New York Times compares the smart phone and gaming device. "Freemium models" is what it describes the computer games to be. These are games that comes with your phone, or other mobile device as well as stationary computers. As these games are not leading in the industry they definitely have the potential as people will choose to buy a new phone over gaming consoles.

Star-
The star of video games would hands down be the X Box 360. Contrary to reportings in 2010 @ esrb.org where the XBOX360 fell in the #2 place to the Wii and just above the PS3, the XBOX360 can not be stopped. "Lead in the U.S. console market last month... top spot for 12 of past 13 months", says cnet.com.

Cash Cows-
The cash cow can be described as the PS3. Much like the XBOX the "PS3 made over $650 M in only 5 days after 'Call of Duty: Black Ops with stores" says New York Times. Every year there is a new team and for years PS3 will have a demand for players of sports playing with their favorite team members on the games that the PS3 offers. "PS3 continues to see growth"..only true mention is "NBA 2k11" @ cnet.com.

Dog-
The dog of the gaming console may very well be children's video games owned by toy companies. These may make no real profits as the non electronic games make do to its simplicity and the simplistic manner their video games are made in. Parents may opt to buying electronic games that the entire family can enjoy or those that can be played on other consoles or computer.
